Going Home

Gas Mileage and Tires...

Heading home... a good thing ... yet, sometimes a bad thing! As much as I love to travel, I love coming home to my bed, my home and my things.  But, after I have been home a few days, I yearn to get on the bike and go again, somewhere new, someplace different!

We covered a few thousand miles with no problems on this ride. Gas mileage wasn’t the greatest, we usually got in the mid 20’s, but hit a high of the low 40’s in the mountains while cruising near Lake City.  I am hoping to put either a trigger wheel or a different ignition control system on it before the next trip.

The rear tire took a pretty good hit on it, but that is normal for the valkyrie when it is loaded. It will probably make 4 or 5 thousand more miles if I am lucky. We endured some weather extremes, extreme heat here in Texas, rain in the panhandle and parts of Colorado, even a bit of snow and cool temps in the highlands. And of the course the ever present winds when we returned to Texas.

In my opinion, the Valkyrie still rules  on the road.  I have never lacked for performance, and the storage was more than ample for my passenger and I. We managed to carry my laptop, clothes, rain gear and the usual few cleaning things most biker’s carry with them.

Gotta love a Valkyrie!!    Return to the Travel on Two Home Page
