So as I find myself in the hotel room, no technology other than my smart phone. I am bored. I decided I wasn't bringing a laptop, or steal my daughters Surface, the kindle or any of the other devices at my disposal. I do what any good retired IT guy does, find out what is available next door!!!
Target had a variety of things. I considered another Surface, but didn't really need it. I asked for a cheap Nextbook, and was told they didn't have it. The young associate asked me what application I wanted it for. I responded, for “entertainment”. I am stuck in a hotel, I am making a disposable purchase. The puzzled look begged for more information. “I am on my bike, as in not bicycle, and if it breaks I will trash it.” “I have spent many times that on an evenings entertainment, it is disposable.”
The selection choices were not as good as the display section portrayed. I picked out a Samsung tablet with keyboard option. It was out of stock. My frustration was rising. I asked “What the hell do you have?” We have … no we are of that. Suddenly, I hear, “hey we do have the Nextbook.” Perfect... I did get a small discount for my trouble. Technology in hand, I strolled back to the hotel to surf the web in style. BTW, I like the cheap little Nextbook. It has a detachable keyboard and runs Windows. You can use it as a tablet or a mini laptop. It made looking up road options and planning a bit easier. It is also small enough to not take up much room. Just a side note!! I hate shopping.
We ended up down the road a few blocks, at the suggestion of inn keeper and research on the web, Murphey's Food and Spirits was a good choice. We had good food, a few beers and it quit raining! It is an Irish pub as the name suggests, but they were playing George Jones, Waylon and Willie. My kind of place, though your mileage may vary.
More planning was done after learning the road we chose was not in our best interest. Though I probably would have tried it if I had been by myself. This may also explain why my wife doesn’t let me play alone very often.
I am allergic to people in large quantities, especially on vacation, more so if I am riding my motorcycle. And, even more again, if I am making the choices for the trip and others are involved. I have traveled to NYC on many occasions, for both work and pleasure. That is different, I love that place in the proper setting. This was not the proper setting. We had a choice, go farther east on I-70 which was also under construction and turn north, or head back west. I voted westward. I knew it would be easier on my riding partner and for that matter me. read more...
