Heading to Big Bend...

I left the Wichita Falls, TX area Monday morning around 11:00. Reality being what it is, I left an area between Jacksboro and Henrietta, TX on highway 148 where I grew up. I proceeded to Jacksboro and gassed up wondering if I should actually do this portion of my trip after spending 1500 miles on Interstate 40, nearly half of which was in the rain. Nonetheless, I headed southwest on comfortable roads, first thru on US 380 to Graham, then Breckenridge then down 183 to Cisco then TX 206 to Cross Plains and on down to Coleman.   I then progressed along US 67, to Ballinger, and on to San Angelo and though I did get on Interstate 10 for a short distance, you could stay on  US 67 all the way to Presidio, TX.  I opted to head along I-10 to spend the night in Fort Stockton.    The last few miles between Ballinger and Fort Stockton were interesting to me since I had never been in the area before. I stopped to read the historical markers that I saw and was amazed at the number of wind generators as I left San Angelo. I know I drove for 25 to 30 minutes with them in view. They were too numerous to count, and quite impressive to see.  The irony to me was that what once was one of the largest oil producing areas in Texas now was a massive wind generation grid… pretty cool.
