Well, I guess we decided to move on, as I often do on the bike, there are so many things to see, and they are even better from the bike. I have to mention at this point, having someone to handle the camera helps to catch the spirit of the ride!
I seem to have trouble stopping for every picturesque thing, though I do have a tendency to want to. Often, the clock overides the desire to take pictures and I just slow down, so many of the pictures are taken “on the go!”
It helps to have a good riding partner in those cases, preferably someone that loves to ride as much as you do, and not complain when the miles get a bit long!!
Outside of Creede, just a short distance, we met some old time track cars at a crossing. We didn’t mind the wait, and watched them cross...and of course took a few pictures. It looked like they were having a good time.
The ride into South Fork was uneventful, just beautiful riding along great roads. We stopped at one of the local restaurants to have lunch, and it was pretty nice. As is my fortune, rain was threatening as we saddled up to go.. and it did rain on us as we exited the parking lot. Fortunately, we were able to ride out of it and watch it close in behind us as we sped away.. run Valk run!!!
Now the delimna comes in the ride. I could head back to Cripple Creek area, and be there in a few hours, but home was starting to call, and I didn’t want to rush the final days of the trip. So instead of heading north towards Salida, we continued East towards Alamosa, and looked for the most interesting route towards Raton. We needed fuel; Fort Garland was where we stopped...and made some new friends! read more....
